Gettin' Ready for our Thanksgiving Plays

Our 2nd grade class has been working hard this week to put together two plays to share with the Kindergartners. Students have been practicing their lines, making backgrounds, and putting together their costumes. We are excited to share The Ugly Turkey and The Meal Must Go On with our Kindergarten friends!

Reader's Workshop: Making Inferences

Students have been doing such great work during Reader's Workshop. We have been talking about making inferences as we read our books. We use our schema, pictures, and clues in the books to draw conclusions and make predictions. Here students are working together to make an inference about the book My Rotten Redheaded Big Brother by Patricia Polacco.

Mystery Reader

We had a special Mystery Reader last Friday. Mrs. Wagner, Grant's mom, brought two special books to share with our class. We really enjoy having visitors come read to us!

Cooperation Activity

We had a special visitor come in last week to help us with a cooperation activity. Mr. Egli brought marshmellows and toothpicks and divided the class into groups. Students had to work together to make the highest tower while using only the marshmellows and toothpicks. This was a neat activity for students to work on cooperation and teamwork.

Our Class Store

Last week our class had a mini-society. Each group had a product they had to advertise and sell. Students sold pictures, masks, smores, cookies, bead necklaces, and tattoos! Our class really enjoyed learning about our economy and how it works. Thanks to all the parents who helped by sending in supplies!

Marc Brown Study

We have been writing stories in Writer's Workshop that are similar to the stories Marc Brown writes. Students chose characters from the well known series to use in their original Arthur stories. We read many Marc Brown books and compared some of the characters. Students are excited to have our Arthur Publishing Party this week.
